Keep Carbondale Beautiful is a non-profit organization based in Carbondale, IL that focuses on litter control, community beautification and environmental education programs.

Polar Bear Weekend
Litter Prevention Strategy

In preparation for Polar Bear Weekend, Keep Carbondale Beautiful partnered with the Streets and Environmental Maintenance staff to place 12 additional trash cans in key areas for the weekend.  KCB provided the cans (thank you to the Park District for facilitating their purchase), the bags, and the clamps.  And KCB checked the cans twice on Saturday and again on Sunday. City workers did the rest: placed the cans,  emptied them once a day, and picked them up.  Many KCB volunteers cleaned their adopted spots on Sunday.   The conclusion of many:  this year the event was much more controlled.
