Phone Book Recycling or Opt-Out

Picture
Old phone book directories can become a landfill nightmare. An average of 660, 000 phone books end up in landfills. Approximately 540 million telephone directories are distributed annually.  In Carbondale, we have 3 phone book distributors.  By going to one site, you can opt out of some or all of the directories currently being distributed. ; therefore Reduce is first!  there's a need to recycle old or unsold directories.

Carbondale residents can recycle phone books along with other paper recyclables.  Place them in the City's green bin or bring them to a City drop-off or to Southern Recycling.  There are also several drop-off sites on the SIUC Campus.
