Champion Tree Contest

We had fun at the Fourth Friday Fair, giving out certificates to nominators and property owners of some really big trees!  That was July 28th, 2017, but watch for more in the future.
Keep your eyes peeled for BIG TREES.

Who else helped? Chris Evans at U of I Extension Forestry taught us how to measure the trees.  Jill Adams, Mary and George Gibson, Lee Hartman, Kris Schachel, Kirsten Trimble, and Lily Vucinic did the measuring.

DID YOU KNOW You cannot tell how old a tree is by looking at it.  In one woods, there were two oaks, one was twice as big as the other, but when they took a core sample, the smaller one was twice as old.  The big one must have been near a secret source of underground water.  So… now you know.
