Volunteer

SIU students make up the majority of volunteers with Keep Carbondale Beautiful -- and we thank you!
There are also community groups who have adopted spots around town, and individuals who contribute hours in many ways.
We thank you all!

Want to adopt* your own spot?

If your group has a Spot, or wants to have a Spot, KCB can send a guest speaker to your meeting so everyone is on the same page, which helps when there is turnover in positions..
*Adopt-a-Spot: This year-round program has been in operation for 25 years.  Groups help out all over town –
– KCB assigns locations (with your input)
– you schedule your monthly cleanups (or weekly, if needed)
– KCB provides bags and gloves.

ENVIRONMENTAL AMBASSADOR AWARD  Students who complete 30 hours of service with certain agencies/activities are eligible for the Environmental Ambassador Award, which can be received every year and looks great on a resume.

STUDENTS IN FORESTRY ... and similar majors
Help with KCB's Tree Sale.  Unload the truck on Friday, sort and organize the trees for sale.  On Saturday (and Sunday in the spring), advise customers on purchase of a tree.  Help load extra trees back on truck at the end of the sale.  Consider helping in advance of the sale with preparations (advertising, labeling ... choosing trees!)
STUDENTS IN HORTICULTURE ... and similar majors
Adopt the KCB garden for the year (or longer)!  The garden is on the north side of Grand Avenue, where Piles Fork Creek comes under the bridge.  Between Papa John's and the Pinch Penny parking lot.  Greenways Trail goes along side.
