Keep Carbondale Beautiful welcomes individuals or groups that are interested in community service to join in one of our scheduled cleanups. Other group cleanups can be scheduled to suit the needs of a community or student group. You choose the time and we can agree on a location within the city in need of cleanup. Fall 2019 Cleanups
A littered site attracts more litter, so removing litter promotes beautification.
Tentative list of cleanups scheduled for Fall 2019. KCB provides bags and gloves. Dress appropriately for weather, bright colors optional. Always wear closed-toe shoes. Bring a friend. Groups welcome. Call or text 618 525 5525 for more info. Most cleanups are 1 - 2 hours, but we'll quit sooner if it's too hot or cold.
Saturday Sept 14 Meet at 9 a.m. Attucks Park (501 North Wall Street)
Bring or wear rubber boots or closed-toe shoes that you can get wet (no flip-flops); come dressed for weather; pick up litter from park and from creek.
This is a joint cleanup with Green Earth. We combine forces to clear as much trash as possible out of Piles Fork Creek, which drains 1/3 of Carbondale streets.
Friday Sept 20 4:30 p.m. Meet at Attucks Park (800 N Wall St) to clean up in advance of the March for Unity parade. We’ll walk the parade route in reverse (Willow and Marion Streets).
Sunday Sept 29 1 – 2:30 p.m. Old Train Depot 111 South Illinois (NB NOT Town Square Pavilion as previously listed... we moved one block closer to campus to stay clear of Lions Pancake Breakfast.)
Sunday October 13 1 – 2:30 p.m Wall and Walnut (meet at Shopping Center at 600 East Walnut) NEW LOCATION Wear bright colors; vests provided

Saturday, Dec 7 1 – 2:30 p.m. Taco Bell (1410 East Main St); park in Walmart lot and walk over. We’ll be cleaning up main streets into town. Clear your brain for finals week. ** Required viewing beforehand: safety video**

Clean up from Saturday night’s Lights Fantastic parade.
Schedule your own private "group cleanup". KCB will meet you with supplies. You can even pick the location, or KCB will suggest one.

Dress for visibility and protection: bright colors, long pants and long sleeves; gloves; comfortable leather shoes or boots; sunscreen and hat
Carpool and park clear of the road
Break into work-groups of 2-3 people.
Daylight hours only - early morning to avoid summer heat; early afternoon in cold weather
If possible, work facing oncoming traffic
Do one side of the road at a time
Wear gloves - your own leather work gloves or rubber gloves from KCB
Watch out for broken glass and other dangers
Notify police if you find weapons or suspected toxic substances
Stay alert - eyes and ears open to environment (no earphones or earbuds)
