Keep Carbondale Beautiful welcomes individuals or groups that are interested in community service to join in one of our scheduled cleanups. Other group cleanups can be scheduled to suit the needs of a community or student group. You choose the time and we can agree on a location within the city in need of cleanup. Spring 2018 Cleanups
Tentative list of cleanups scheduled for Spring 2018. KCB provides bags and gloves. Dress appropriately for weather, bright colors optional. Always wear closed-toe shoes. Bring a friend. Groups are welcome. Call or text 618 525 5525 for more info. Most cleanups are just under 2 hours, but we'll quit faster if it's too cold.
Monday, January 15 2 - 3 p.m. MLK Day of Service. Meet at 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Eurma Hayes Center (441 E Willow St. see map below).
Sunday, January 28 1 - 2 or 3 Downtown Clean-up. Meet at Town Square Pavilion at 1 p.m.
Tuesday, January 30 5 - 6 pm Adopt-a-Spot Information Session. Location TBA, probably 2nd or 3rd floor of Student Center.
Sunday, February 11 1 - 2 or 3 Downtown Clean-up. Meet at Town Square Pavilion at 1 p.m.
Sunday, March 4 1 - 3 Downtown Clean-up. Meet at Town Square Pavilion at 1 p.m.
Saturday, March 24 9 – 11 Piles Fork Creek Clean-up. Meet at 9 a.m. at Attucks Park to clean up Piles Fork Creek Preserve with Green Earth (both KCB and GE can give you volunteer credit). Wear rubber boots if you have them. Some of us will get wet. We’ll clean out trash from the creek and the surrounding preserve and park.
Saturday, April 7 9-12 or 1-4. SIUC’s “The Big Event” Meet at 9 a.m. at Town Square; or 1 p.m. at Attucks Park
Saturday April 21 9 - 12. Spring Cleanup and Recycling Day. Meet at Turley Park for our giant, city-wide cleanup. Spots will be assigned according to group size. Leave bags along assigned street for City trucks to pick up and weigh in. T-shirts; lunch; prizes.
Saturday, May 5 10 - 12. Route 13 East Clean-up. Meet at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of Taco Bell – northeast side of Route 13 and Giant City Rd; park in Walmart lot. Wear bright colors. Vests will be provided. We'll clean up Route 13 east of Carbondale, from Giant City Road to Reed Station Road. ** Required viewing beforehand: safety video**
Schedule your own private "group cleanup". KCB will meet you with supplies. You can even pick the location, or KCB will suggest one.

Dress for visibility and protection: bright colors, long pants and long sleeves; gloves; comfortable leather shoes or boots; sunscreen and hat
Carpool and park clear of the road
Break into work-groups of 2-3 people.
Daylight hours only - early morning to avoid summer heat; early afternoon in cold weather
If possible, work facing oncoming traffic
Do one side of the road at a time
Wear gloves - your own leather work gloves or rubber gloves from KCB
Watch out for broken glass and other dangers
Notify police if you find weapons or suspected toxic substances
Stay alert - eyes and ears open to environment (no earphones or earbuds)
