Spring Cleanup & Recycling Day => MONTH

Picture
T-shirt from 2014
As part of Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup, the Spring Cleanup & Recycling Day is a community-wide effort to reduce litter in Carbondale.  In 2020, we will take the MONTH of APRIL to encourage participation by residents who are able to go for a walk.  Take a couple of grocery bags with you and pick up litter - and recyclables - to clean up around your block of from streets that are in need.  Get ideas from KCB by looking at our Adopt-a-Spot map, looking at Facebook.com/KeepCarbondaleBeautiful, or contacting KCB by phone, text, or email.

Help us THANK our sponsors.   We get support from
Burris Disposal,
CIMCO Recycling, and
Southern Recycling.

We also get in-kind support from the Carbondale Park District, the City of Carbondale, and Silkworm.

Some things to keep in mind
  • Check in with KCB before to get assignment, if needed, and after so we know it's done.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and a glove or two to protect you.
  • Dispose of trash at your place or get permission to use a trash bin closer to your cleanup site.
  • Put recyclables in your blue bin or leave at a collection point.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly when done.
  • Send a photo to KCB or post on Facebook and/or Instagram
  • Pat yourself on the back and accept the appreciation of KCB and the wider community.

Plus ...  If you come across discarded electronics (see list below), you need to keep that separate from the other trash and recyclables.  City workers are prohibited from knowingly handling them. Volunteers should bring those back to the park and we'll make sure they get to Southern Recycling.
