The importance of spending consumer dollars with local businesses will be powerfully demonstrated in a presentation and workshop this Tuesday evening.

"The Impact of (Not) Buying Local" will be presented by Susan Odum on February 26 at 7 pm in the Carbondale Civic Center. Susan Odum is the Community and Economic Development Program Coordinator with the University of Illinois Extension.

Odum's presentation will include an interactive game to help people see some of the unintended effects of their purchasing decisions. This program is part of the 11 Days for Food Justice; other events can be found at nonviolentcarbondale.org.

25th Anniversary Celebration

Our 25th Anniversary Celebration was held on Saturday morning, July 28.  The 9 am garden tour attracted ten people.  The presentations after that attracted a couple dozen others.  William Sutphin's presentation on Zero Waste was followed by a lively discussion.  Jon Remo stepped in to do the presentation on Watersheds (or Drainage Basins) and it was great.  Katherine Poulos got us all excited about Green Earth's preserve around Pyles Fork Creek and the potential benefits of the debris catchment system (funded by a KAB/Lowe's grant, obtained by Keep Carbondale Beautiful).
